In the Virtual Flora of the Mosses of North Carolina we provide a key to the mosses of South East US created by Lewis E. Anderson, updated and complemented by others authors. The first key works as a guide to the more specific keys (keys I- V); these are keys to the genera (but in some cases they name species), also in alphabetic order the keys to the species.
The Moss Flora of North Carolina consists of more than 400 species. From this list we have illustrated a total of 86 species from 9 families (23 genera). For all of these keys, important characters have been illustrated to aid in the identification.
